Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the ShieldOne app (“ShieldOne”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information. It applies to the ShieldOne iOS application. By using ShieldOne you agree to this policy.
1. Information we do not collect
ShieldOne does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information. We do not collect, transmit, or store:
- Your browsing history or the list of domains you visit
- Personal or contact information
- Advertising identifiers or device fingerprints
- Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports sent to us
- Location data
ShieldOne contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
2. How filtering works
ShieldOne uses Apple’s Network Extension framework to run a local DNS filter on your device. When an app or website on your iPhone looks up a domain, ShieldOne checks that domain against a threat database stored on your device. If the domain is on the block list, the request is refused locally and never leaves your phone. This filtering decision involves no network connection to us and no external lookup.
3. DNS resolution
For domains that are allowed, ShieldOne must resolve them to an IP address so your connection can proceed. ShieldOne forwards these DNS lookups to Quad9 (9.9.9.9), a free public resolver operated by the Quad9 Foundation that is designed for privacy and does not log the IP addresses that make queries. This is the same kind of DNS resolution your device performs normally; ShieldOne simply directs it to a privacy-respecting resolver. Your DNS queries are not sent to ShieldOne, and ShieldOne operates no DNS servers. Quad9’s handling of DNS traffic is governed by its own privacy policy, available at quad9.net.
4. Information stored on your device
The following data is created and kept only on your device (and in your device’s standard iCloud backup, if you enable it). It is never uploaded to us:
- Your settings, such as the selected protection mode
- Any allow/block rules you create
- Local counts and a short, recent list of blocked events, shown on the dashboard
- Your subscription status, cached from Apple
You can clear this data at any time by deleting the app.
5. Subscriptions and payments
ShieldOne offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions and a one-time purchase through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. All payments are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple’s handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple’s privacy policy. ShieldOne receives only a signed receipt from Apple’s StoreKit indicating whether an active entitlement exists; this is validated on your device.
6. Third-party services
ShieldOne relies on exactly two third parties, and neither receives personal information from us:
- Apple — for app distribution and In-App Purchase processing.
- Quad9 — for privacy-focused DNS resolution of allowed domains, as described in Section 3.
7. Data sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with anyone, for any purpose. Because we do not collect personal data in the first place, there is nothing to sell or share.
8. Children’s privacy
ShieldOne is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. As the app collects no personal information from anyone, it is safe for use by all ages, including in the Family protection mode.
9. Security
Because ShieldOne keeps your data on your device and transmits no personal information, your data benefits from iOS’s built-in security and sandboxing. Threat database updates, if delivered, are cryptographically signed and verified before installation.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, noted within the app. Continued use of ShieldOne after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
