Privacy Policy

Effective October 10, 2026

The short version

  • Painted makes every painting on your iPhone. Your photos are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
  • Painted only sees the photos you pick. It can't browse your photo library.
  • There's no account, no advertising and no tracking across apps or websites.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your name, email address or payment details.

This policy explains how the Painted app for iPhone ("Painted", "we", "us") handles information. It applies to the app and to this website. Painted is developed by [Developer name].

Your photos

When you choose a photo, iOS hands Painted only that photo through the system photo picker. Painted doesn't ask for access to your whole library.

Painted analyzes the photo (faces, light, edges and the main subject) and paints it entirely on your device, using Apple's on-device frameworks. Nothing about the photo or the painting is sent to us.

To keep your gallery working, Painted saves a working copy of the photo, the painting, a thumbnail and the stroke plan inside the app's private storage on your iPhone. Deleting a painting in the app deletes these files. Deleting the app deletes all of them.

If you save a video or image, Painted asks for permission to add it to your Photos library. This permission only allows adding new items. Painted can't read your library with it.

Place names for paintings

Painted names new paintings after where and when the photo was taken, such as "Kaş, August". It reads the date and, if present, the location stored in the photo's metadata.

To turn coordinates into a place name, Painted uses Apple's geocoding service, which sends the coordinates to Apple. Apple handles this under the Apple Privacy Policy. We never receive these coordinates. The resulting name is stored only on your device, and you can rename any painting. If a photo has no location, no request is made.

Information stored only on your device

Painted keeps a few settings on your iPhone, such as your language choice, whether brush sounds are on, your signature name and whether you've finished onboarding. They never leave the device and are removed when you delete the app.

Purchases and subscriptions

Painted Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your name, Apple Account email or payment details.

To check whether Pro is active, Painted uses Apple's StoreKit. It keeps a cached copy of your Pro status, plus a random purchase identifier created by the app, in the iPhone's Keychain. The identifier isn't linked to your identity. Apple may send us anonymous transaction information about your subscription, such as renewals, cancellations and refunds, so we can keep your access correct and measure revenue. It doesn't identify you personally.

You can manage or cancel a subscription in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions.

Analytics, advertising and tracking

Painted doesn't contain advertising, doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites, and doesn't sell or share personal information. It currently sends no analytics or usage data to us or to any third party.

This website doesn't use cookies or analytics, and its fonts are served from our own server.

Sharing

When you share a painting or video, you choose where it goes through the iOS share sheet, for example Messages, Instagram or TikTok. The receiving app or service then handles it under its own privacy policy. Painted doesn't post anything on your behalf.

Your choices and rights

Because your photos and paintings stay on your device, you're always in control. Delete a painting in the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored. You can turn off Photos access in the Settings app at any time.

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California) or the KVKK (Türkiye) give you rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. We don't hold personal data that identifies you, but if you have a request or question, contact us and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Painted is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Your paintings are stored in the app's sandboxed storage, which iOS protects with your device passcode. Purchase data in the Keychain is encrypted by iOS.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Painted handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
