Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 24, 2025

ShieldGuard ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS application.

In short: We do not collect your browsing history. We do not sell your data. DNS filtering happens entirely on your device.

1. Information We Collect

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Browsing history or DNS query logs
  • Personal identification information (name, email, address)
  • IP addresses or precise location data
  • Contents of your internet traffic

Anonymous Usage Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics. This helps us understand how the app is used and improve the experience. This data includes:

  • App opens and screen views (anonymous)
  • Feature usage patterns (e.g., which filters are most popular)
  • Crash reports and performance metrics
  • Device type and OS version (for compatibility)

This data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally. Firebase Analytics is operated by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

2. How We Use Information

The anonymous analytics data we collect is used exclusively to:

  • Improve app stability and performance
  • Understand which features are most valuable to users
  • Identify and fix bugs or crashes
  • Guide future development priorities

We do not use any collected data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

3. Data Storage

All DNS filtering data — including your custom rules, blocklists, and query logs — is stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Your filtering data stays on your device. If you uninstall the app, all local data is permanently deleted.

4. DNS Filtering — How It Works

ShieldGuard uses Apple's NEDNSProxyProvider framework to filter DNS requests on your device. It's important to understand:

  • No VPN server: Unlike traditional VPN-based ad blockers, ShieldGuard does not route your traffic through any external server.
  • On-device only: DNS queries are resolved and filtered entirely on your iPhone.
  • No data leaves your device: We cannot see, log, or access your DNS queries or browsing activity.

The DNS configuration profile installed by ShieldGuard is used solely to enable on-device DNS filtering and does not create a VPN tunnel or proxy connection.

5. Third-Party Services

Firebase Analytics (Google)

We use Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics only. No personally identifiable information is shared with Firebase. You can learn more about how Google handles data at Google's Privacy Policy.

Apple StoreKit

Subscriptions and payments are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.). All payment data is handled according to Apple's Privacy Policy.

6. Children's Privacy

ShieldGuard is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we do not collect personal information from any users, this applies universally.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of ShieldGuard after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
